What is testosterone testing?

A testosterone test is a lab assessment that checks the amount of testosterone in your blood. It can identify whether your testosterone levels are too high or low. While testosterone is thought of as a "male" sex hormone, it's also present in females. Testosterone imbalances can lead to mood changes, infertility, reduction in muscle tone, weight gain, fatigue, reduced sex drive, excessive hair growth or loss, voice changes, and more. If you have noticed any of the above symptoms, a testosterone test can evaluate your hormone levels to see if it's the underlying cause of your health issues. Contact Boston Direct Health in Boston, MA to book an exam with Steven Zivich, M.D.

What to expect during testosterone testing

A blood test will be used to measure your testosterone levels. This assessment is completed on-site at Boston Direct Health in Boston, MA. On the day of your appointment, we'll have you sit comfortably in a chair as a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm. The sample will be sent to a lab for testing, and once the results come back, Dr. Zivich will go over the findings with you. If your testosterone levels are too low or high, different treatments can be used to achieve normal levels.
